Cream Potion

Making this delicious cream has a duel purpose, as you can put it on anywhere for the pleasure of its scent and enrich your skin while you’re at it.

Orrisroot is wonderful for the skin. It imparts a delicious fragrance and prolongs the “life” of the other scents as well. Rose oil is likewise nourishing for the skin; your other two choices should be tested to see if they blend harmoniously.

5 1/4 ounces emulsifying ointment (available from a pharmacy or online source)
5 tablespoons glycerine
2 teaspoons each of the three floral essential oils of your choice (make rose one of them)
1/3 ounce ground orrisroot

Melt the ointment and glycerine very gently in a bowl over a pan of boiling water (or in a double boiler), then add in the oils and orrisroot and continue to heat for about 15 minutes. Strain through muslin and cool a little before putting into jars using a broad palette knife: place the cream around the edges first, then fill up the centre.

This cream will last for a few months if stored in a dark glass jar and kept cool. Remember to add a pretty label.
