4 cups roses
4 cups vetiver root (or vetivert)
3 cups patchouli
1 cup sandalwood
2 cups mace
1 cup orris root
2 teaspoons rose oil Mix the rose oil with the orris root and all other ingredients together. Add the rose oil and orris root mixture to the other mixture.
The fragrance of this exotic potpourri is extremely long-lasting. For this reason and the expense of the fixatives and spices, you might want to use only your most colourful rose petals. It is too lovely visually and sensually to hide in sachets so use jars! The browns and reds somehow even remind one of the East Asian countries from which most of the ingredients are obtained, the rich overtones similar to those seen in an oriental rug or sari.
